Portraits of a Pandemic | A Personal Project

“MASKED”

“MASKED”

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a Pandemic.

This pandemic will have long-lasting, possibly permanent effects, on our economy, healthcare, travel, schooling, relationships, and everyday lives.

Our doctors, nurses, and other front-line workers are now in a never-ending war-zone. Every day they must risk their lives (and their family’s lives) in order to provide the much-needed care of those affected by this virus. This is only part of the gear that provides some safety for them. Imagine wearing this 8-14 hours per day? The partial everyday gear of an E.R. Doctor.

Our new “normal” is anything but. It includes always maintaining a distance of 6ft from anyone who does not live in our home, wearing gloves and masks when we shop or interact with other humans. It requires our children to learn virtually, us to work virtually. It has halted our favorite sports and pastimes. It produces stress, anxiety, fear, and loneliness. Our entire sense of “community” is threatened and ultimately undergoing a massive and fundamental change.

This is the face of our new “normal”.

This is the face of our new “normal”.

This is no-doubt a monumental time in our lives and this is my way of documenting a small piece of history.

I will continue to document masked faces in my community.

Getting Back to Sessions, with Some Changes

Woot Woot! I’m back at it!

I have to admit, a few weeks ago I was in a pretty nasty slump thinking I’d never get back to my passion for photographing people. As of May 4th, the Governor of NJ approved photographers to go back to work as long as we are able to maintain all the social distancing rules. By the 10th of the month, I had all my backlogged Birthday Club sessions rescheduled and got most of my postponed sessions back on the calendar. I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to be back to work and enjoy what I love doing!

This is exactly how I feel being back at work!

New Session Rules

While I am back to work and currently booking sessions, there are some new rules that I have implemented to keep everyone safe.

  • ALL sessions will be held OUTDOORS ONLY through June 10th. While I am able to open the studio with specific guidelines, this is a personal decision I have made based on the current state of the pandemic.

  • Sessions held are for immediate family members only. At this time I am not booking extended family or multi-family sessions in order to prevent the potential spread of Covid-19.

  • I will maintain a 6 ft. distance at all times. All prompts and directions will be given verbally. I use a special lens that allows me to get beautiful close-ups from a distance!

  • I will not be bringing any props, blankets or other accessories to sessions. For family sessions, I recommend bringing a blanket of your own if you are not comfortable sitting on the bare ground.

  • I will wear a mask during the shoot.

  • All consultations will be done via phone and reveals & ordering appointments will be done virtually via Zoom.

Once the studio opens back up, I will have a whole new set of rules that will apply. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

New Pricing

I have been super busy the last few months re-working my session offerings. Every year I continually listen to feedback and try to simplify my products & offerings.

Session offerings are now simpler than ever before with almost all sessions being a 2-part investment. The Session Fee and the Collection. The session fee is just that, a fee to hold your session date and cover all that goes along with booking and shooting the actual session itself. Then, AFTER you see your images, you purchase one of three Collections. Collections consist of a set number of digital files AND a credit that you can use towards professional prints, products, artwork or additional digital files, so you get exactly what YOU want!

This way of pricing offers the best of both worlds (prints & digitals) while simplifying the process and allowing flexibility in how much you invest.

  • Outdoor Session Fees start at $150, Collections start at $395

  • Studio Session Fees start at $50, Collections start at $295
